Activities:

1. Bingo is also available to teach children the shapes and colors used in the text

2. Using colored construction paper, draw and cut out the cookie shapes in the book. While drawing and cutting, go over the colors and shapes with your child. Then arrange the shapes in pretend plates/trays. For example, in the text, the first tray has eight purple circle-shaped cookies, so place eight purple circle cut outs on a plate/tray. Do this for all the trays mentioned in the text. Then carry out the addition and subtraction as you read the story with your child.

3.  Act out the story. Give your child a wand and some props, such as a pretend cauldron and some construction paper shapes, and let him/her act out the story with other family members and/or friends.

4. Cut and fold paper into 3D shapes: Tetraderon. Instructions: Have your child cut along the solid lines. Then fold along the dashed lines to create the tetrahedron.

5. Numbers poster (paper size: Legal, 8.5" x 14"): a) Count up to 30, b) Identify odd and even numbers, c) Count by twos, d) Count by threes, e) Count by fives, and f) Ask your child the following questions: i) How many columns are there? ii) How many rows are there? iii) How many colors are used to write the numbers? iv) Have your child identify the colors. v) Have your child read numbers written in a specific color. For example, which numbers are written in blue?

6. Lay out 2D and 3D model shapes for your child to explore and play with.
